Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Trauma affects your quality of life and can leave you feeling stuck.
Let’s begin your journey of healing!
People experience trauma in response to a significant event such as an accident, assault, harassment, unhealthy relationship, negative family dynamic, verbal abuse, or racism. Any negative memory that is triggering, can also be trauma to work through.
At Flourish Psychology, we use proven treatment modalities to help you process and heal from your trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an interactive therapeutic technique that is scientifically proven to relieve negative symptoms from trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
How does EMDR work?
EMDR works by allowing you to relive triggering experiences in a safe environment, which helps make the event less triggering. While this is happening, you’ll be focusing on external stimuli such as eye movements, hand taps or tones. This simple exercise can help to reframe your associations with the traumatic event.
EMDR is scientifically proven to be safe and effective at reducing symptoms such as flashbacks and nightmares. Many patients experience some relief after their first session.
A traumatic event can lead to a loss of memory as your mind tries to protect you from painful thoughts and emotions. This can cause feelings of confusion and helplessness.
By uncovering repressed memories, you will make significant progress in healing from your trauma – and we’re here to help!
